Youth Hockey Team Seeks Used Books for Fundraising
HOPKINTON, MA - Want to get rid of your used books? Special needs youth hockey team East Coast Jumbos of Hopkinton is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books. The group has recently placed a drop-off donation container to collect these items from community members who’d like to repurpose their used goods while also helping the team raise money. The group will be paid on an ongoing basis for all items collected in their donation container. East Coast Jumbos is a youth hockey association that teaches children and young adults with physical and developmental disabilities how to ice skate and play the game of hockey. The gray book donation container, distinguished by its purple and yellow Got Books? signs, is located in the parking lot of the Hopkinton Fire Station at 73 Main Street. This program is an ongoing fundraiser and donations can be made by the public at any time. All funds raised through the collection of these donations will benefit the hockey team.

WOBURN, MA - Want to get rid of your used books? The Woburn Middlesex Lions Club is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books. The group has recently placed a drop-off donation container to collect these items from community members who’d like to repurpose their used goods, while also helping the Lions charities raise money. The group will be paid on an ongoing basis for all items collected in their donation container. NORWOOD, MA - Want to get rid of your used books? Grace Episcopal Church of Norwood is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books. The group has recently placed a drop-off donation container to collect these items from community members who’d like to repurpose their used goods while also helping the church raise money for its Norwood community outreach ministry. The group will be paid on an ongoing basis for all items collected in their donation container. The gray book donation container, distinguished by its purple and yellow “Got Books?” signs, is located in the parking lot of the church at 150 Chapel St. in Norwood. This program is an ongoing fundraiser and donations can be made by the public at any time. Used Books Collected for Counseling Center
ABINGTON, MA - In 2004, Dan Brown’s “The Da Vinci Code” was so popular that the novel could barely be kept on the shelves at local bookstores. Today, the “Twilight” series is all the rage among teens and young adults. But what should readers do once all the pages have been turned and those books are just taking up space? At the Elm Street entrance of the United Church of Christ in Abington, there’s a bin where those books can be put to good use, as well as any CDs, DVDs, videos and audio books. Got Books Inc., an organization out of Lawrence, is collecting those materials and donating a portion of the profits to the Norma Kent Pastoral Counseling Center of Abington. Judy MacKenzie, a therapist at the center, said the Norma Kent center provides therapy and counseling to patients, and offers an option of incorporating religion. MacKenzie said the book drive will help keep the center afloat. “We do various fundraising through the year because some people who have no insurance or limited insurance, we do what we can, but the people here need some compensation,” she said.Read More...

MAYNARD, MA - Looking to get rid of your used books? The Parent Teacher Organization of Maynard High School is raising money through donations of new and used books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books. The group has obtained a drop off donation container for residents, businesses and others who wish to contribute books they no longer use and would like to repurpose, while also raising money for the PTO. The PTO assists in the funding of enrichment programs, field trips, classroom supplies and more for the students of Maynard High School.
