Wilmington, MA  January 18, 2011 – Got Books, Inc. the leading used book collection and reuse company in New England has announced that  in conjunction with its sister company Used Book Superstore, every employee in the Burlington MA school district (650) will receive $15 in books.  The gift to the school system, which exceeds $10,000 in value from Got Books/Used Book Superstore, also includes the establishment and continual support of newly established lending libraries in every Burlington school.

The mission of the Burlington Public Schools is to help all students acquire organized knowledge, master creative and intellectual skills, and understand ideas in ways that foster a positive self-image and lead to lifelong learning, self-sufficiency, and responsible citizenship – having access to books is an important step in the achievement of that mission”, comments Burlington Superintendent of Schools Dr. Eric M. Conti. “The gift from Got Books and the Used Book Superstore is a generous one that is very much appreciated. We look forward to all 650 of our staff going into the store and getting books and each school getting a new lending library.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Conti, Got Books / Used Book Superstore founder and president Bob Ticehurst, Burlington Chamber of Commerce director Jim Murphy, and invited guests will celebrate the gift at the Used Book Superstore at 256 Cambridge Street in Burlington (Formerly Pool & Patio) on Tuesday January 25 at 2:30 pm.  The press and the public are invited to participate in the presentation of the gift.

Jim Murphy, executive director of the Burlington MA Chamber of Commerce comments, “The Chamber enjoyed connecting the Used Book Superstore to the Burlington schools and is very pleased with successful outcome – it really is a win-win. The Used Book Superstore/Got Books is a company which exemplifies good corporate citizenship and philanthropy as this generous gift demonstrates.”

“Got Books as the book supplier of the Used Book Superstores is in the business of supporting non profits and schools,” comments Bob Ticehurst, CEO and founder of Got Books, Inc. and the Used Book Superstores. “Our book collection programs have given more than $1 million back to our non profit partners. Our stores provide teachers with special discounts EVERY week, and this gift is an example of our work in our “Books for Teachers” program.  This is the largest book give away in the company’s history, but it won’t be the last.”

The newly established lending libraries will be an extension of the existing libraries in each school.  In addition to the books provided by the Used Book Superstore, students will be encouraged to bring their used books in to loan to other students.  For example, in the high school, the lending library will be part of a student café where the students can meet to read, to connect and to swap books.

In addition to the gift to the Burlington School District, Got Books will place four of its book collection containers at Burlington Schools. The book collection containers will provide the Burlington schools with an easy way to raise money.  Every time the collection containers are emptied, Got Books will send the school a check for the books.
