TILTON SCHOOL IN HAVERHILL RECEIVES 750 BOOKS FROM GOT BOOKS, INC.

“Got Books Great Book Giveaway” Provides Access to Books and Promotes Literacy for Children

Haverhill, MA December 1, 2011 – Used Book Superstore, Inc headquartered in Wilmington MA, the largest used bookstores in New England has announced that the Tilton School in Haverhill MA is the latest recipient of a “Great Book Giveaway” and will receive a gift of 750 books. The books are being donated as part of the Haverhill YMCA’s Educator of the Year award for 2011.  The YMCA selected Kerri Alves of the Tilton School as the 2011 Educator of the Year.  Each of the more than 600 students at the school will receive a book to keep for themselves. The balance of the books will become part of the school’s library.

The gift to the school, which exceeds $4,000 in value is the latest donation from the Used Book Superstore in Salem NH to schools in its retail area. Similar gifts have been made this year to the Hill View Montesorri school in Haverhill and other schools in both MA and NH, locally including Lawrence MA and Salem NH.

Kerri Alves, a third grade teacher at Tilton School and the 2011 YMCA educator of the year comments, “Our students were so excited to hear that they will each be getting a book.  The timing is perfect giving each child a book to read over the holiday break supports their developing a love of reading.

Tracy Fuller, executive director at the YMCA adds, “Our Educator of the Year award highlights the dedicated efforts of Haverhill’s shining stars of education.  We appreciate the support we get for the event from Merrimack Valley Hospital, Pentucket Bank and the Used Book Superstore.”

In addition to the gift to the Tilton School, the Used Book Superstore is donating more than 300 books to the Haverhill Christmas Stroll.  Readings by Mrs. Claus will take place during the Stroll at Angles and Art.  Each child will receive the gift of a book to take home.

“Got Books Great Book Giveaway” is designed for elementary schools in greater Boston and southern New Hampshire.  This program distributes books in schools K-5. Any teacher can apply for a book grant for their entire school.
