Got Books Raises Money for Efforts of Kikapoo Family Restaurant

Kikapoo Family Restaurant opened its doors in 2010 in South Killingly, Connecticut. Like all restaurant entrepreneurs, owners Dave and Betsy Burgess want their business to develop an outstanding reputation. They want Kikapoo to be known for providing diners with great food and friendly, customer focused service. Dave and Betsy also want Kikapoo known for supporting those who have dedicated their lives to serving our country and to those educating our children.
The Burgesses understand the level of support our country’s veterans, troops, and teachers need and deserve. Dave is a Vietnam veteran who continues to serve our country through his involvement with veteran’s organizations. He is the current President of the Danielson Lions Club of Connecticut and served as Commander of the Moosup, Connecticut VFW Post 10284. In addition, Dave is employed as a Special Education paraprofessional in the Griswold School system.
Betsy has been an educator for thirty-one years and currently holds the position of Family and Consumer Science Instructor at Griswold High School. The Burgess’ daughter, Julie, worked in the education field as well prior to taking on the role of manager at Kikapoo. Shortly after opening the restaurant, the Burgesses enrolled in a Got Books program benefiting both our troops and teachers. Anyone visiting Kikapoo Family Restaurant cannot miss the gray bin positioned at the entrance. The bins are part of the Got Books program. The Burgesses have designated the Moosup VFW Post 10284 as the recipient of funds generated by the donated books.
“It is gratifying to know that books originating at Kikapoo might make it into the hands of a soldier, veteran, or student,” remarked Dave and Betsy.
The Got Books bin has been at Kikapoo since the end of September and has already had numerous donations. Dave, Betsy, and Julie hope it will soon be filled. The Got Books program will remain in place at Kikapoo indefinitely.
