Promoting Book Donations
Got Books helps make your book donation container successful by helping to market your location. Upon placement of the container and on a rotating schedule Got Books will send press releases to the newspapers in your area to promote your book collection container. Your organization will also be listed on our website and in the international recycling database Earth911.com
When people from your area call us to schedule a book pick-up, we’ll first recommend that they drop off their books in your container before scheduling the pick-up.
As a Got Books fundraising partner you will receive a dedicated page on our website to promote book collections and your organization. We’ll include your logo, a description of your organization, photos and a description of how your book collection container benefits you. We create the page for you and link it back to your website!
As part of our program you receive access to the Got Books Digital Marketing Kit that includes suggested press releases, ads for your newsletters, ads for your email newsletters, posters and more.
Learn How to Run a Book Drive
A great way to collect more books and earn more fundraising money is to run a book drive.
The more people who know about and donate books, DVDs and CDs into your container the more successful it will be. We encourage you to take an active role in letting your community know about your new container.
Here are some tips and ideas to spread the word about your fundraising container:
- Promote your container in a mass email campaign to followers, donors and members
- Post it on your organization and/or town website
- Display posters in high traffic areas around your town, such as coffee shops, banks, convenience stores, etc.
- Mention the book container in your monthly/annual newsletter
- Publicize the container at town or local events and celebrations
- Organize a book drive at your school, church, business or other location
- Post a notice on your local cable access channel
- Keep us updated with current info or changes about your container or organization to post on our website
- Remind people to donate books during regular meetings and announcements for your organization
- Post information on how/where to donate books on your organization’s social networking pages
- Keep a stack of flyers or handouts in an accessible location for patrons and visitors
- Ask members, employees, faculty, parishioners, patrons, volunteers, friends and family to spread the word
- Remind people they can also donate CDs, DVDs, audio books and records in addition to books
- Ask local businesses about advertising they might be able to donate, like a restaurant placemat ad space
- Post a notice on the public bulletin board outside your local grocery store, restaurant, town hall, etc.
- Start a blog about your fundraiser to share updates, goals, and plans for events and book drives
- Create and post online a fun informative video about your fundraiser and why the community should help
- Contact local media outlets to let them know about your community event – they might make it a feature!
- Host an event, such as a BBQ, at your container location to create awareness & let people see that it’s there
- Make a sign (such as ‘Donate Books Here!) to place at the entrance to your container location
- Utilize online directories and forums that allow community postings and news
- Include a reminder about your container in your email signature & ask organization members to do the same
The sky is the limit – the more effort you put in the better results you’ll see. These ideas, coupled with the Got Books Digital Marketing Kit, will make your fundraiser a success. Remember, the more books in your container, the more money your group earns!
